      ABOUT

My name is Veronika Szász. I work as a freelance graphic designer, musician, and art educator based in Budapest, Hungary.
I began my studies at the Secondary School of Visual Arts, where I specialized in bookbinding and restoration. Between 2008 and 2014, I studied graphic design at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, earning my degrees in Graphic Arts and Art Education.

Since then, I have continued expanding my expertise through further training and artistic practice, with the intention of developing a comprehensive professional and human understanding that allows me to work with both passion and depth. My goal is to approach my professions with sensitivity and integrity — and to empower others through them as well.

      MORE

Since 2014, I have been working as a freelance graphic designer. My practice focuses on visual identity design, with a special interest in personal, cultural, and ethically responsible brands that embody sustainability and collaboration.
My autonomous graphic works seek a balance between classical values and contemporary aesthetics, exploring human and cultural continuity through empathy, attentiveness, and sensitivity to detail.

Between 2015 and 2020, I taught design practice at the Secondary School of Visual Arts, and from 2021 to 2025, I lectured on visual identity design at Corvinus University of Budapest, where I also contributed to the Executive MBA Disruptive Development Program with modules from my own workshop series.
Since 2024, I have been a lecturer at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, teaching illustration.
In addition, since 2015, I have regularly led workshops on visual communication, creativity development, and self-awareness, which I continually refine through professional experience and advanced training.

Since 2018, I have been active as a performing musician, presenting my original compositions both as a solo artist and in various ensembles.
My music moves along the boundaries of Hungarian folk tradition interwoven with world music, improvisational jazz, experimental electronics, and indie pop, seeking a balance between tradition and contemporary sound.

Alongside my concerts, I have created numerous interactive, interdisciplinary performances, where I engage the audience through drawing-based participatory games that explore identity, self-expression, and connection.

        https://www.dalok.hu/hirek/orvossag-fuben-faban-szasz-veronikaban-veni-wh
Let the songs fill our hearts like the slow-burning glow of a candle in a temple! It takes a truly special talent to channel the ancient, sacred, soul-healing power of music – a gift granted to very few. In this singer, who descends from a lineage of cantors, the respect for tradition, ancestors, and folk art lives on, combined with humility, faith, and deep devotion to music.”

        https://recorder.blog.hu/2024/10/20/veni_being_your_slave_lemezkritika
“Nestled between folk-inspired vocals and swirling electronics — sometimes even dance-like — with jazzy guitar and textural noises, Veni once again surprises. The songs unfold freely, as if we were tuning into a process that started long ago and stretches far ahead. Themes of finitude, infinity, and love intertwine with timeless folk imagery, creating music that is both instantly lovable and endlessly re-discoverable.”

This self-returning musical path is an uplifting journey inward. With every listen, new layers of meaning are revealed — this album takes your hand and gently leads you home.”

“VENI is one of the most captivating acts in Hungarian music today. Veronika Szász’s singing is not only beautiful but deeply expressive – intimate, restrained, and profoundly emotional. Her music effortlessly fuses folk, jazz, electronic, and art-pop influences into a natural and free-flowing sound world. It feels less like a performance and more like being invited into a private, sacred space.”

“Live or on record, this duo is always a miracle. István Bata is a humble genius, and Veronika Szász is among the most powerful and spiritual female artists in Hungary today.”

        https://www.nativedsd.com/dsd-reviews/brighter/
        “Hypnotic! This album,
Unfold Live, from Veni — a duo featuring vocalist Veronika Szász and bassist István Bata — defies categorization. Folk? Jazz? English or Hungarian — it doesn’t matter. The communication is hypnotic. Szász’s voice is youthful, worldly, innocent, all-knowing. Different, yet profoundly rewarding.”

“VENI’s music embraces a stunning range of styles — from jazz to pop, from Middle Eastern to Scandinavian influences — yet it remains boundlessly free. Szász’s voice is angelic and pure, yet mysterious and emotional, captivating in its subtle contradictions.”

“Veronika Szász, aka Veni, stripped her style down to its essence — and it suits her and her collaborator István Bata perfectly. Unfold Live creates vast space through bass and electronics, with Szász’s tender and expressive voice at its center.”

“A beautifully dreamlike double album debut from VENI, a composer-singer-visual artist whose music evokes Erykah Badu, Morcheeba, and the finest moments of feminine post-dubstep. Rarely do we hear music this delicate, intimate, and quietly powerful on the Hungarian scene.”

        http://nol.hu/kultura/bajusszal-az-eg-fele-1474841
“The connections between music and visual representation also interested graphic design major Veronika Szász, who, beyond fine art, is involved in jazz as well. Beneath her images appear lyrics from the songs she reworked with her own band.

Her drawings mostly depict women’s faces, while lines from Emiliana Torrini, Melody Gardot, or the folk song On the Danube Bank can be read—perhaps helping to decipher the artist’s thoughts. In her best piece she drew the knots of a rope; the graphic was made for ‘Re,’ an étude by the young Berlin pianist Nils Frahm. Frahm’s music is like when the past meets you on a Thursday afternoon, smiles, then sits down across from you and asks what’s new. You answer awkwardly, and suddenly realize that forgetting the past is just like objectivity. In truth, no one is capable of it.“
